The Lenexa Civic Center

The Lenexa Civic Center opened with great fanfare in July 2017 and is the centerpiece of the Lenexa City Center; the culmination of the citizen led Vision 2020 plan launched over 2 decades ago.

The Lenexa Civic Center is a multi-purpose campus including the relocated Lenexa City Hall, Community Forum, Lenexa Public Market, Lenexa Rec Center, their educational partner Park University as well as a 500 stall parking garage and multiple outdoor plazas. 

JE Dunn Construction, PGAV Architects and CBC Real Estate Group were all key participants assisting the city to make their vision a reality. 

WLI in partnership with CREW KC is proud to offer this unique opportunity to learn more about the planning, design and construction of the Lenexa Civic Center as well as the female-centric team that assisted in making this incredible project a reality.


Jennifer Goeke is a registered architect with 22 years of experience. She combines a rare blend of attributes that lends a spirit of collaboration and stewardship to her work. Her main focus and interest has been working on projects for civic, cultural and hospitality clients. Her role on these diverse projects entails identifying and solving design and construction challenges, collaborating with entire design teams and ensuring that every opportunity to integrate sustainable and efficient design is explored.


Michelle Kaiser serves as Senior Project Manager and has over 19 years of diverse real estate project management experience. Michelle is responsible for all facets of project development and implementation and has an acute sense of each client’s needs having acted in an Owner’s Representative role for the majority of her career. She provides a structured and comprehensive management approach to coordinate, control and manage, strategic planning, due diligence, site selection, team selection, budget, and schedule development, design, and construction. Susan Schaefer graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a BS in Construction Science and is currently a Senior Project Manager with JE Dunn Construction. She has over 16 years of Construction Management experience spanning from high rise condominiums in New York City to global commercial headquarters in Melbourne, Australia to Civic Developments in Lenexa, Kansas. Being considered a leader in her male dominated industry is an honor and inspiration. Susan’s greatest accomplishment is her 2-year-old son, Otis, whom she adores with her husband Andrew.


Beccy Yocham is the Director of Community Development for the City of Lenexa, Kansas.  She holds a bachelor of business administration degree from Pittsburg State University and a Juris doctorate from the University of Kansas School of Law.  After graduation from law school, Yocham served as Assistant General Counsel for the League of Kansas Municipalities before joining the City of Lenexa Legal Department in 1997.  After serving the City in a legal capacity for 14 years, Yocham was named Director of Community Development in October 2011, where she oversees planning, engineering, building, licensing and codes enforcement.  Beccy is a 2009 graduate of Leadership Kansas and currently serves on the United Community Services Human Service Grant Fund Committee.
